Özet
31 Mart Vakıası olarak tarihe geçen ayaklanmanın üzerinden 100’den
fazla yıl geçmesine rağmen nedenleri konusunda tarihçiler arasında hâlâ
çok keskin bir ayrım bulunmaktadır. Bediüzzaman, ayaklanma öncesi süreçte
İstanbul’da ve ayaklanma öncesi yaşanan olayların tam da içinde bulunan
bir âlimdir. Bu vaka sonrası Divan-ı Harb’e çıkarılmış ve orada yaptığı
savunma sonrası mahkeme tarafından suçsuz bulunarak beraat etmiştir.
Mahkeme safahatından da kullanılan irtica terimi, 31 Mart vakası ile dindar
insanlara takılmış bir kulp olarak Türk siyasi tarihine o günlerde girmiş
ve daha sonraki süreçleri önemli ölçülerde etkilemiştir. Bu çalışmada,
Bediüzzaman’a göre irticanın o günlerde nasıl ortaya çıktığı ve bunu ortaya
atanların ne amaçladığı açıklanmıştır.

A Bad Memory of the March 31 Incident: Irtica
Abstract
Although more than 100 years have passed since the uprising, which
went down in history as the 31 March Incident, there is still a very sharp
distinction among historians as to its causes. Bediuzzaman is a scholar who
was in Istanbul during the pre-uprising period and who was precisely involved
in the events before the uprising. After this case, he was taken to the
Court of War (Divan-ı Harb) and after his defense there; he was found innocent
by the court and acquitted. Although what Bediuzzaman describes
there is his own ideas, it is an objective document to understand those days,
as he was acquitted by the court. The term irtica entered the Turkish political
history as a handle attached to religious people with the 31 March incident
and affected the subsequent processes to a great extent. It is a claim
made at a time when the truths were reversed so that sins were replaced by
good deeds, and that had no truth other than lies. This study, it is explained
how irtica emerged in those days according to Bediuzzaman and what the
people who put it forward aimed.
